In 2005, the Humane Society started a spay and neuter program offering convenient, high-quality, low-cost services to combat the county's pet overpopulation problem. Free monthly transport services to the spay and neuter clinic in Harrisonburg, Virginia now called the Anicira Veterinary Center -- just 35 minutes away -- has been a key component to the increasing success of our program. In addition to coordinating the transport and veterinary services, the Humane Society has provided extensive financial assistance to individuals in the county who cannot afford the reduced clinic cost for the surgery.
It is our ultimate goal to see the spay and neuter program continue to grow until we no longer receive phone calls requesting spay and neuter services -- when ultimately there are no more homeless cats and dogs in Shenandoah County.
